19 Convicts Granted Clemency in May 9 Incident, Confirms ISPR

Rawalpindi (Ghag Report):

The Courts of Appeal have announced clemency for 19 convicts involved in the May 9, 2023 incident, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed in a statement.

According to the ISPR, the convicts had exercised their legal right by submitting petitions for mercy and pardon during the execution of their sentences. A total of 67 petitions were filed, out of which 48 cases were forwarded to the Courts of Appeal for legal review, while 19 petitions were approved purely on humanitarian grounds under the law.

Among those granted clemency are Muhammad Ayaz, son of Sahibzada Khan, and Samiullah, son of Mir Dad Khan. Others include Laiq Ahmed and Amjad Ali, both sons of Manzoor Ahmed, alongside Yasir Nawaz, son of Amir Nawaz Khan.

The list further includes Saeed Alam, son of Muaz Allah Khan, whose petition was reviewed twice, and Zahid Khan, son of Muhammad Nabi. Additionally, Muhammad Suleman, son of Saeed Ghani Jan, and Hamza Sharif, son of Muhammad Azam, were also pardoned. The final name on the list is Muhammad Salman, son of Zahid Nisar.

The ISPR clarified that remaining petitions are still under legal review and will be processed within the stipulated timeframe. The convicts granted clemency are being released after completing the required legal formalities.
