Pakistani security forces killed 539 terrorists, injuring 310 during Intelligence-based operations (IBO) in the first half of the year 2024. While the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for 500 attacks this year. The security forces till now have conducted over 1400 IBOs eliminating over 500 terrorists from TTP and other militant groups, while injuring or arresting over 310. On the other hand, the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed about 500 attacks this year, mostly targeting security forces.
According to various reports, TTP and others carried out 245 attacks from April to June, resulting in an estimated 380 deaths, mostly among police officers, with 225 injured. About 88% of incidents in Pakistan this year occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A government report states that the security forces killed 403 wanted terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during these months. Another report noted security forces targeted 672 wanted terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from January to June, the highest number in the past four years.
Despite these efforts, an increase in terrorism incidents is witnessed in July, similar to June. Whereas, in June, there were 27 attacks across nine districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and between July 1st and 16th, there were 19 attacks, including a suicide attack in Bannu Cantonment on July 15th in which 8 security personnel were martyred whilst killing 10 terrorists in retaliatory operations. On July 16th, a rural center in D.I. Khan was targeted, resulting in multiple civilian casualties and the deaths of 2 security personnel.
On the other hand, recent information indicates firing incidents occurred again from Afghanistan towards Pakistani border personnel in Bajaur and Dir yesterday. According to reports, the Afghan Taliban attacked Pakistani border personnel, resulting in intense reciprocal firing. It is also said that an Afghan TTP fighter, Karimullah Mansoor, was killed and several injured due to firing by Pakistani security forces.
