The United Nations has identified the proscribed TTP as a threat to Pakistan, citing concerns that the TTP is financed and supported by the Afghan Taliban and al-Qaeda, resulting in a rise in the number and frequency of attacks against Pakistan. According to a new UN report, once the Taliban took over Afghanistan, not only did Pakistan’s security situation deteriorate and the number of assaults on the country increased, but the TTP also got patronage and backing from the Afghan Taliban, their government, and al-Qaeda. According to the research, in the previous two to three years, Pakistan has faced security problems and threats from a variety of different groups, including TTP, which has a base in Afghanistan and al-Qaeda
The United Nations produced a similar report on July 24, 2023. The UN study also stated that Pakistan’s security difficulties have worsened since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan and that the TTP and al-Qaeda are gaining strength as a result of the Afghan interim government’s support. Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan remained strained after 2022 because of cross-border terrorism, and this year Pakistan moved inside Afghanistan two or three times to target specific TTP sites. There were reports a few weeks ago that Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was going to visit Kabul with a delegation, but this was later ruled out because the Afghan interim government has a policy of not taking action against the TTP, and many ministers in the interim government of Afghanistan have referred to the issue as an internal matter of Pakistan. According to experts, the following several weeks will see increased tensions between the two countries. Because certain Pakistani political personnel have repeatedly stated that Pakistan has the right to pursue TTP in Afghanistan.
Pakistan is experiencing stress not only on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border but also on the India-Pakistan border, with India consistently accusing Pakistan of being responsible for some of the incidents in occupied Jammu and Kashmir this month. Pakistan has refuted the charge and claims that India is hiding its security failings like previously Pakistan, but the global media is closely monitoring the latest tensions between Pakistan and India keenly.
