Tourism is a significant contributor to the global economy. Pakistan is a country rich in culture, history, and natural beauty, making it a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. With diverse landscapes, from towering mountains to vast deserts, and a vibrant cultural heritage, Pakistan has a lot to offer visitors. Tourism is a source of revenue, employment, foreign exchange and ultimately economic development.
The tourism industry in Pakistan has been severely affected by terrorism, leading to economic losses and instability. The effects of terrorism on tourism can be enormous, leading to unemployment, homelessness, deflation, and many other social and economic issues.
During 2024, Pakistan’s security forces have conducted approximately 1,400 intelligence-based operations, resulting in the killing of over 500 terrorists from TTP and other groups in the last six and a half months.
According to various reports, TTP and other groups carried out 245 attacks in April, May, and June 2024, resulting in an estimated 380 casualties, mostly police personnel. Approximately 88% of these attacks occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On June 27, 2024 attacks were carried out in 9 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been responsible for several attacks on tourist spots in Pakistan, particularly in the northern regions including Naran, Kaghan Valley, Hunza, Chitral, Swat Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan and many other regions.
To promote tourism, Pakistan must work on Identification of tourist attractions,
Infrastructure development and the Improvement of the security situation.
