According to a UNDP evaluation, Afghanistan’s interim government is utilizing international help in a variety of disciplines to support terrorism. Simultaneously, the country’s population, particularly children and women, faces significant political, social, and economic obstacles. According to the research, Afghanistan’s Taliban leadership is financing terrorist groups, causing the devastated nation to face food, employment, education, and environmental issues. On the other side, the number of attacks on Pakistan has increased.
Before the UNDP study, two or three other UN agencies said in their reports that the interim government of Afghanistan not only completely supported the TTP, but was responsible for the assaults on Pakistan. According to these allegations, Al-Qaeda also provides financial and technical support to the TTP. Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s security issues have grown significantly, and Afghanistan has become a safe haven for TTP, al-Qaeda, and other extremist groups, paving the way for a large surge in assaults on Pakistan. The security of the entire region is jeopardized.
Surprisingly, while institutions such as the United Nations identify such a challenger, there are reports that the United States, contrary to its anti-Taliban claims, has been providing continuous assistance to the Taliban’s interim government for the last three years. According to foreign media, the US has been sending the Taliban regime a small but significant sum of money every week to the Afghan interim government. Furthermore, two major US allies, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, are alleged to have been providing help to Afghanistan’s interim government since August 2021, at the request of the US.
It would not be incorrect to refer to this position as a “double game” in terms of geopolitics. The United States has once again increased its communication and relations with Pakistan this year, and there are reports of large-scale bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism, but it is also worrying that on the other hand, the US is also sponsoring the interim government of Afghanistan unannounced, which has made Afghan soil a stronghold of religious extremist groups and is pursuing a policy of using Afghan soil again.
This has put Pakistan in an unusual situation due to which US-Pakistan relations have also been strained.
