Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, like his other party leaders, has indirectly condemned the action taken against General (retired) Faiz Hameed under the Army Act, claiming that it is an internal matter of the Army. However, he is aware that, while a private housing society is driving the current operations, General Faiz Hameed and his “network” of pro-PTI contacts also have a significant impact.
The PTI is unable to refute the connection between the recent issue and the events of May 9. The action was initiated following the discovery of “material” in Rauf Hassan’s office, which not only provided proof of the “dubious facilitation of the network” but also identified the individuals with whom the party was corresponding for anti-state activities. In this context, further steps are being implemented. Considering this, it does not appear that the PTI’s policy of distancing itself from General (retired) Faiz Hameed will be enough to protect it from the fallout of this scenario when the game has only just started.
There is a significant difference between political sympathy and the preparation of a large conspiracy under its guise, and in this case, the entire network of conspiracies is exposed, including a major attempt to carry out a coup within the army. In such a case, all of the network’s roles will remain active. Imran Khan and Faiz Hameed will face more problems.
Both have done “things” that the state regards as a comedy, in addition to jeopardizing the system for their own personal and collective purposes. The outcome appears to be as expected, and precise descriptions of “detachment” from one another will no longer be useful. In this scenario, it is necessary that, following such a significant step by the army, the parties involved in the government initiate a process of self-incrimination so that the public is aware of the behind-the-scenes activities of the political characters who are part of the conspiracies and are engaged in lobbying using civil supremacy or the “weapon” of democracy.
