KP Police Without Discipline

The police force in Lakki Marwat and other regions has not just gone on the rampage but has gone beyond comprehension. Rather than avoiding flagrant violations of business rules, it has begun to engage in politics on some important security issues on its preferred terms. According to some reports, a few powerful elements in the system are behind the recent strike of the Lakki Marwat police, but what is even more tragic is that the provincial government is unconcerned about all of this, even though formal announcements of a police revolt were made in a sensitive district of Bajaur and other areas following the Lakki Marwat, but the rulers do not miss the toss.

The province is suffering from the worst type of dysfunctional governance, and the provincial government is actively working to exacerbate the situation. What exactly is the provincial government doing? This is evident from former provincial minister Shakeel Khan’s statement in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly. The ruling party has declared the province a “no territory” for its political fugitives, and the police are in charge of maintaining protocol and protecting these individuals. It ought to be that there is no place for this kind of rebellion or courtesy in the SOPs, so the DC and the DPO would have been sent home within hours after taking strict notice of Lakki Marwat’s strike rebellion. However, these striking elements were so patronized that now this resistance and rebellion is not limited to Lakki Marwat.

The game is more complex than it first appears. Currently, when the deadliest terror attacks are occurring in the southern and tribal districts. Many questions have been raised by granting the police force this kind of exemption. Aside from the Indian media, foreign media spokespersons for the province’s ruling party have been claiming for several days that the provincial government and its police have revolted against the army or the state, but the rulers and top bureaucracy in Peshawar are unaware of or unconcerned about this propaganda and the situation.

If this trend continues, the war-torn province may see administrative disintegration, with potentially disastrous repercussions. As a result, the other bodies responsible for the state writ must take note of this situation and take the necessary measures, and if the provincial government is not fulfilling its responsibilities, then all options, including the Governor’s rule, should be exercised to prevent matters from getting worse.
