Ehsanullah Ehsan, the former spokesman for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), shared a post on X in which he criticized the current leadership of the TTP both in Pakistan and in the interstate, calling them “traitors.” He likely attempted to blame the current TTP ameer, Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud, in this writing, likening them to a traveler who does not know their destination.
After careful consideration, he concluded that the TTP’s organizational and ideological divisions had resurfaced and that certain commanders and important groups were dissatisfied with the top leadership’s policies.
Noor Wali Mehsud had earlier on social media made a statement offering talks to the Pakistani government, which drew harsh criticism from Ehsanullah Ehsan and others. Reports from a while back also stated that disagreements on certain topics have grown outside of the TTP. Actually, on several crucial issues, the TTP and the Afghan government have grown to disagree. Remember how Ehsanullah Ehsan and a few other commanders, following the formation of the Nawaz Sharif government in late 2013, formed a distinct group named “Jamaat-ul-Ahrar” led by Umar Khalid Khurasani to oppose a dialogue process? During the talks, the group carried out several dangerous attacks, including the horrifying attack on the Kohati Church in Peshawar.
The “Jamaat-ul-Ahrar group” has reportedly resumed activities in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the districts of Khyber, Mohmand, and Bajaur, over the past few months, according to some security sources. There are also rumors going around regarding Lashkar-e-Islam’s activities in Khyber. Probably because of this, the forces carried out several military operations in the Tirah Valley of Khyber District and some other areas after August 20.
