GHAG Report
Reputable media circles and certain participants in the negotiations have asserted that JUI leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has demanded the provision of significant government positions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as payment for his support of the proposed constitutional amendments.
In exchange for the proposed constitutional revisions, Maulana reportedly asked Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for five ministries, including the position of Chief Minister in Balochistan, under the “tit for tat” policy. In addition, he has made a demand for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s governorship. Consequently, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has been tasked with handling the case by the Prime Minister and his team, to get in touch with Maulana and Bilawal Bhutto, but despite their best efforts, the negotiations have not progressed and the impasse still exists.
Additionally, it is reported that the PML-N and the PPP have approved the JUI’s appointment to the chief ministership in Balochistan. However, the Maulana is also demanding that to be appointed as the KP governor, a demand that other stakeholders are currently finding unacceptable given the Maulana’s close ties to the PTI. Primate Minister Shahbaz Sharif reportedly offered the JUI many federal cabinet posts in exchange, but Maulana Fazl ur Rehman has not yet accepted this offer and is also attempting to re-elect the government coalition on top of the aforementioned demands.
