Mohibullah Shakir, the consul general of Afghanistan in Peshawar, has stated unequivocally that he has no right to hold negotiations with Pakistan and that, if he does, it will take place by the federal government.
In an exclusive interview with Radio FM Suno Pakhtunkhwa, he stated that having discussions is beyond his purview. The two federal governments will always make this kind of effort. He claims that since Pakistan has been hosting Afghans for 45 years and since Afghanistan shares a 2,500-kilometer border with Pakistan, he wants to see improved relations between the two nations and will do everything within his power to achieve this goal.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, had recently announced that he would hold direct talks with Afghanistan, and in this regard, the Minister had also held an emergency meeting with the Afghan Consul General, which evoked sharp reactions from the state, political, and journalistic circles, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that it was not the domain and mandate of the Chief Minister or any provincial government.
