Terror Unchecked: Target Killings Escalate in South Waziristan Amid Government’s Failure

Wana ( Ghag Report):

Target killings continue unabated in South Waziristan, with yet another tragic incident claiming the life of a young man. Muhammad Noor, a resident of Azam Warsak in Lower Tehsil Bermal, was fatally shot by unidentified assailants, who managed to flee the scene after the attack.

Police sources have yet to determine the motive behind the killing but confirmed that investigations are underway. Muhammad Noor, a member of the Doski Khel tribe in Wana, had recently tied the knot, making his untimely death even more devastating for his family and the local community.

The killing has triggered an outpouring of grief and anger among the residents, who decry the rising insecurity in the region. “This is yet another grim reminder of the lawlessness that has engulfed our area. How many more lives must be lost before the authorities take action?” a local elder remarked.

A Surge in Violence and Fear

This incident is part of a disturbing trend of increasing target killings in South and North Waziristan, where law enforcement seems powerless in curbing the violence. In recent months, areas such as Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Mardan have also witnessed a resurgence of terrorism. Local residents are living in constant fear, as the absence of effective governance has emboldened criminal elements and extremist factions alike.

Following the incident, locals have demanded urgent action from the authorities to restore peace and ensure justice. However, their faith in the provincial administration is at an all-time low.

Failure of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government

The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, led by Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur, has been widely criticized for its inability to maintain law and order in the region. Critics argue that the government’s indifference and lack of strategy have turned KP into a hotbed of violence.

“Restoring peace is one thing; sustaining it requires proactive governance, which is completely absent here. The current administration has failed miserably to fulfill its constitutional duty to protect its citizens,” said a political analyst.

The surge in violence and the failure to apprehend the perpetrators of target killings not only highlight the incompetence of the provincial authorities but also raise questions about the federal government’s role in addressing the deteriorating security situation in tribal districts.

Call for Urgent Action

The residents of North and South Waziristan are demanding immediate measures to restore peace. They have urged the government to deploy additional security forces, conduct thorough investigations, and take decisive action against criminal networks operating in the region.

The tragic death of Muhammad Noor, coupled with the relentless wave of target killings, is a stark reminder of the dire need for competent governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Without swift and effective action, the region risks sliding further into chaos.
