Rawalpindi/Islamabad (Ghag Report):
As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests intensify in Islamabad, several major roads and highways in both the capital city and its twin city Rawalpindi have been blocked to prevent access to the Red Zone and control the flow of demonstrators. The government has deployed containers at strategic locations, causing widespread disruptions to daily commuting.
Blocked Roads:
1. Motorways: M1, M2, M3, M4, M11, and M14 will remain closed until further notice.
2. GT Road: Multiple sections from Lahore to Islamabad are closed.
3. Murree Road: Key points such as Saddar, Murir Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk, Naz Cinema, and Shamsabad are blocked.
4. Faizabad: Faizabad Interchange and the surrounding routes to Islamabad Expressway are closed.
5. IJ Principal Road: Access from IJP Road to Expressway is restricted.
6. Srinagar Highway: Both directions from Zero Point Check Post are blocked.
7. Peshawar Mor Flyover: Blocked.
8. Margalla Avenue/Iran Avenue: Access near E-11 Market is blocked.
9. Golra Mor: Closed.
10. Bahara Kaho Bypass: Blocked from both directions along Murree Road.
11. Rawat T-Chowk: Blocked.
12. All Roads from Taxila: Closed towards Islamabad.
13. Tarnol Railway Crossing: Blocked.
14. Pir Sohawa Road: Near Monal, the road linking to Haripur (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) is closed.
15. Adiala Road: Closed from Khawaja Corporation Chowk, but one lane is still open.
16. Sawan Bridge: Blocked.
Open Roads:
1. Margalla Road: Open for access to the Red Zone.
2. Convention Center Route: Currently open.
3. 26 Number Chowki: Only one lane of Srinagar Highway remains open.
4. Expressway: One lane open, though heavy traffic congestion is expected.
These road closures and blockages are being implemented to manage the protest activities and ensure the safety of citizens. Authorities have urged commuters to plan their travel accordingly, as these disruptions are likely to continue for an indefinite period.
