Peshawar (Ghag Report):
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has called for collective efforts from all sects and communities to promote tolerance and work together to restore peace in the province. He emphasized that the responsibility of improving the situation lies with the people of the province, stating, “This is our homeland, and no one from outside will come to fix it for us.”
The governor expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of Shia clerics from Parachinar, Hangu, and Kohat at the Governor House. Former federal minister Sajid Hussain Turi also attended the meeting.
The delegation, which included prominent clerics such as Maulana Hamid Hussain Imami, Maulana Yasir Imami, and Maulana Syed Baqar Hussain, presented their recommendations for ensuring the protection of lives, reopening blocked routes, and achieving sustainable peace in Kurram. They also urged the federal government to take immediate measures to address the pressing concerns in the region.
Addressing Intolerance and Violence
Acknowledging the suggestions, Governor Kundi lamented the increasing culture of intolerance in society. He condemned the brutality witnessed in Kurram as being against Islamic principles and highlighted the essential role of religious scholars in fostering harmony and addressing the growing polarization.
The governor further stressed his commitment to finding a permanent solution to the long-standing conflicts in Kurram. He revealed ongoing consultations with provincial political leaders to devise a comprehensive strategy, asserting that political representatives, in line with Pakhtun traditions, are best suited to mediate and resolve the issues through dialogue.
Tribute to Peace Efforts
The clerics praised Governor Kundi’s efforts to restore peace and strengthen brotherhood in the province. They also prayed for peace, stability, and unity among the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The recent tragic events in Kurram, which have caused concern nationwide, have underscored the urgent need for collaborative action to prevent further loss of life and ensure lasting peace in the region.
