From the skies to the seas and even beyond the Earth’s atmosphere, Pakistan’s achievements in early 2025 reflect its growing aspirations and capabilities. Alongside groundbreaking advancements in technology and defence, the country’s security forces have carried out successful counterterrorism operations, ensuring stability and national security.
Pakistan has entered 2025 on a strong note, after reaching remarkable milestones that demonstrated its growing capabilities and resilience. These achievements, led by the country’s security forces, highlight Pakistan’s dedication to technological progress, regional security, and economic development.
Major Counterterrorism Operations
Pakistan’s security forces have intensified efforts against terrorism, conducting a series of high-profile operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. In Kurram, the wanted leader of the banned militant outfit Zainabiyoun Brigade, Muzammil Agha, was arrested. Additionally, five terrorists were killed in response to an attack on an FC fort in Gulistan, Pishin. Security forces carried out three major operations in Lakki Marwat, Karak, and Tirah, eliminating 30 terrorists and injuring eight others. Among those neutralized were two key commanders in the Tirah Bagh area. Meanwhile, in Balochistan’s Kachhi district, an intelligence-based operation resulted in the elimination of 27 terrorists and the destruction of their hideouts, including weapons and explosives caches. These actions reflect Pakistan’s continued commitment to eliminating threats and ensuring regional peace.
A Testament to Aerial Excellence
Marking a significant achievement, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) deployed its JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets to Saudi Arabia for the multinational aerial combat exercise “Spears of Victory-2025.” This exercise is considered one of the most prestigious in the world and includes participation from nine countries: France, Greece, Qatar, UAE, UK, and USA.
The Pakistan Air Force team showed impressive skills by flying non-stop from Pakistan to King Abdul Aziz Air Base, refuelling mid-air. The JF-17 Block-III aircraft, equipped with advanced AESA radar and long-range missiles, showcases Pakistan’s cutting-edge technology that can rival modern combat planes.
This exercise is part of our ongoing effort to improve interoperability and develop tactics to be applied in the face of evolving technology and collective defence challenges. It also emphasizes Pakistan’s role as a pivotal element in ensuring regional stability and promoting worldwide cooperation.
Advancing Space Technology
After successfully launching its first indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) satellite on January 17, Pakistan achieved a historic milestone. The advanced satellite is expected to deliver game-changing improvements for a variety of sectors.
Its applications in agriculture will be transformative, with new methods for monitoring crops using AI, improving irrigation strategies, and aiding food security efforts. The data from EO-1 will also be used by urban planners to manage infrastructure development and monitor the expansion of built-up areas. In addition, the satellite will contribute significantly to environmental monitoring, providing timely data on natural disasters, deforestation, and water resource management.
This advancement in space technology is a significant milestone for Pakistan’s rapidly growing capabilities in the aerospace sector and is following the objectives outlined in the National Space Policy. From strengthening disaster management to resource optimization, the satellite adds to aspects of national security and economic resilience.
Combating Transnational Crime
The Pakistan Navy carried out an anti-narcotics operation in the Northern Arabian Sea, under which a suspicious vessel was intercepted and drugs worth $1 million were seized from secret compartments. The PNS Moawin carried out this critical operation with precision and efficiency, thanks to the support of naval air assets.
The operation also reflects Pakistan’s commitment to protecting maritime routes and countering transnational criminality that often acts as a catalyst for terrorism and organized criminal networks. By securing its waters, Pakistan contributes toward regional stability and economic prosperity.
Submarine Cable: Transforming Digital Connectivity
Pakistan has received the largest submarine cable in the world, a breakthrough that will address longstanding issues related to internet connectivity. Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima, stated that this milestone would significantly upgrade the nation’s digital infrastructure, boosting industries and modernizing communication systems.
The deepening of such elements into Pakistan’s security establishment will not only improve command and control but will also build up Pakistan’s cyber defence mechanism and support the integration of emerging technologies crucial for national security.
Gwadar Airport: A New Era of Development
Pakistan’s infrastructure development saw a major boost with the official inauguration of the New Gwadar International Airport. The first commercial flight from Karachi landed at the airport, receiving a traditional water cannon salute. The ceremony was attended by Balochistan’s governor, chief minister, and Federal Minister for Aviation, Khawaja Asif.
Constructed at a cost of PKR 50 billion, the airport can accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747, making it one of the most advanced airports in the region. Khawaja Asif emphasized that Gwadar is progressing rapidly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with the new airport serving as a cornerstone for regional connectivity and economic growth.
Discovery of Gold: A Turning Point
The finding of 2.8 million tolas of gold in Attock, worth around PKR 800 billion, will prove a turning point for Pakistan’s economic destiny. This great reserve, confirmed by the Geological Survey of Pakistan, covers a distance of 32 kilometres and has gained attention for sustainable extraction plans.
Such a discovery can be extremely beneficial for boosting Pakistan’s economy, which in turn can significantly contribute towards national security via higher investment in defence and other infrastructures. The expected revenue can also generate employment, alleviate poverty, and improve confidence in Pakistan’s unexplored natural resources.
These achievements highlight the interconnectedness of security, technology, and economic progress, positioning Pakistan as a nation ready to tackle challenges and seize opportunities on the global stage. With successful counterterrorism operations, groundbreaking technological advancements, and the inauguration of critical infrastructure projects such as the Gwadar airport, Pakistan’s future is being shaped by a strong and strategic vision.
The beginning of 2025 signals a new era for Pakistan, with its security forces playing a vital role in national development. These defence milestones not only enhance Pakistan’s security capabilities but also provide a foundation for economic and technological growth, setting the stage for a brighter and more prosperous future.
