GHAG Report

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has, for the first time in light of the current circumstances, directly referred to the province’s worsening law and order situation as being even more intolerable. He has stated that while the necessity and possibility of the governor’s rule cannot be ruled out, he will spare no effort in carrying out his constitutional responsibilities as the federation’s representative.

He claimed in an exclusive interview with “FM Suno Pakhtunkhwa” and “Dawn News” in Peshawar that the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is getting worse every day and that the provincial government is to blame for both the existing state of affairs and its terrible failure to put things right. It is impossible to completely rule out the prospect of the governor’s rule in the province in such a scenario. He asserts that the use of the governor’s authority is a constitutional right under specific conditions. As such, however, there is a history of the undercurrents and potential applications.

To a question posed to him, the governor replied that several places in the south and north, including Swat, Kurram, Bajaur, DI Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and many other locations, have been designated as no-go areas, except the province’s tribal districts. As a result of the attack on foreign diplomats in Swat and the provincial government’s disregard for this, he sent a letter to every diplomat in his position as governor, raising numerous concerns. The governor says there is no truth to the provincial government’s claim that the administration was unaware of the diplomats’ visit or that it was not reported to them. He further said that it is the responsibility of the provincial government to provide security to all such guests and activities as usual, but the delegation was provided with only an old type of police vehicle for the squad.

To another query, the governor replied that he had spoken with the president and written a letter to the prime minister about the current state of affairs, but he thought more meetings and discussions were required in this respect. Because the province is currently dealing with a significant security issue, it is no longer possible to ignore mismanagement or persistent corruption. He claimed that a provincial minister had shown tremendous carelessness and even claimed that Iranian-made missiles were utilized in Kurram during a policy statement regarding the ongoing crisis in Kurram

Raising eyebrows at Maulana Fazl ur Rehman’s tight relationship with the PTI, Governor Kundi claimed that the party officials who bestowed upon Maulana several “names” were now praying behind him and rejecting each other’s invites. However, Maulana Fazl ur Rehman is the one who has persisted in labeling their leader as an agent of Israel and other parties. It remains to be seen what this closeness will ultimately lead to.
