Dera Ismail Khan (Ghag Report):
Dera Ismail Khan, the hometown of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, is grappling with severe neglect in terms of infrastructure and public services, raising concerns about his commitment to the development of his own constituency. Despite being the heart of the province’s leadership, the city is plagued by numerous unresolved issues under Gandapur’s watch.
The once-bustling city is now struggling with deteriorating public infrastructure. The main roads are plagued with hazardous conditions, particularly with open manholes, which pose serious risks to public safety. These infrastructure failures are compounded by the lack of proper maintenance of essential public facilities.
The city’s historical park, once a symbol of community pride, has fallen into disrepair. The solar lights that once illuminated the area have become non-functional, with reports suggesting that the batteries have been stolen, leaving the park in darkness. The public gym in the park has been ravaged by vandalism, with broken or missing equipment and no oversight. The artificial waterfalls, once a striking feature of the park, have dried up, and the public restrooms designed for community use have been completely shut down.
Adding to the city’s woes, newly installed China lights along the main roads failed within just two days, highlighting the inefficiency in addressing even basic urban needs.
Meanwhile, allegations of corruption have surfaced in Dera Ismail Khan, with claims that PTI affiliates in the city are using their political influence for personal gain. One individual is reportedly building two luxury bungalows on Dayal Road, and another PTI supporter is constructing a farmhouse on 12 to 13 kanal of government-owned land. These actions have raised serious questions about accountability and the fair use of public resources.
The residents of Dera Ismail Khan, once hopeful of development under the leadership of their hometown representative, are increasingly frustrated. They question how their elected Chief Minister, with the power to make significant changes, has allowed the city to decline in this manner. This sense of abandonment is growing among locals, who are demanding immediate action to address their city’s dire state.
This situation underscores a critical lesson: leadership is not just about holding office; it’s about addressing the needs of one’s own community. The people of Dera Ismail Khan are calling on CM Ali Amin Gandapur to turn his attention to the pressing issues facing his constituency before continuing with broader political ambitions. The city, once filled with promise, now waits for the leadership it deserves.
