Chaman: ( Ghag Report)
The federal government has commenced the distribution of free e-passports to local residents in Chaman, fulfilling its earlier promise under the recently implemented One Document Regime. The initiative is a major step toward streamlining cross-border movement and providing relief to citizens living in the border areas of Balochistan.
The One Document Regime, introduced to facilitate cross-border travel and enhance border management, mandates the use of e-passports for individuals crossing into neighboring countries. Recognizing the financial challenges faced by local communities in border towns, the government had pledged to provide these documents free of cost to eligible residents.
Officials in Chaman confirmed that the distribution process is now underway and has been met with appreciation from the local population. For years, residents of this border town have relied on traditional travel permits and other less formal mechanisms, which often led to complications and delays at the border. The issuance of free e-passports is expected to simplify the process and ensure compliance with new border regulations.
“This step reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by border communities,” said a local official. “It not only facilitates their mobility but also aligns with international standards of border security and documentation.”
Local residents have lauded the move, expressing relief at being spared the financial burden of acquiring e-passports. Many see this as a positive shift toward equitable treatment of border communities, who often face marginalization in state policies.
The initiative in Chaman is part of a broader plan to expand e-passport services across other border towns in Balochistan, ensuring smooth implementation of the One Document Regime throughout the region.
