GHAG Report

Last night, three police officers—including Inspector Noor Wali Shah—were injured when a group of terrorists ambushed a police van in the Ashary area of Swat in a native village of Gulshah. The police responded by killing two of the attackers and allowing several more to flee while the locals and politicians of the area acted promptly by taking out their weapons to support their local police.

In Swat this week, there have been two major terrorist attacks on police. One official was killed and three others were injured when a remote-controlled device struck a police car that was carrying foreign diplomats on Malam Jabba Road three days prior. A group of terrorists opened fire on the police car in the Gulshah village yesterday as the officers were on patrol in the Ashary (Matta Tehsil) area of Swat. The police replied valiantly, shooting two of the attackers while the others were able to flee. Numerous citizens and political activists came to the police’s gun-wielding defense when word spread that they had been fired by the police. Among them was Ayub Khan Ashary, the leader of the ANP and a former provincial minister.

Along with rescuing and quickly moving the three injured police officers to the Matta hospital, they pursued the assailants who were on the run. Later, several people—including the DPO—arrived in Matta and carried out other required actions, such as the search operation. Noor Wali Shah and other injured personnel were also sent to Saidu Sharif Hospital, where it is reported that their conditions are stable.
