Peshawar (Ghag Report)
The UN team, which monitors UN sanctions, has declared the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as the largest terrorist group in Afghanistan, with more than 6,000 fighters. The report states that TTP’s activities, movements, and operations are supported and sponsored by the Afghan Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and other groups, resulting in numerous attacks on Pakistan in recent years, which continues to this day.
The report also notes that the number and nature of attacks on Pakistan are “surprising” and this situation has increased security challenges for Pakistan. Some experts believe that the number of TTP fighters in Afghanistan may be higher than reported, as there are indications that hundreds of Afghan Taliban fighters have also joined TTP. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi has stated that the Taliban involved in attacks on Pakistan are those who were released from prisons in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He is referring to the deal made during Imran Khan’s government, which resulted in the release of hundreds of prisoners. Previously, an American report has also stated that TTP and Al-Qaeda’s strength and activities in Afghanistan have increased after the Taliban’s takeover.
